Water Filter Cartridge Replacement

Whole House Water Filter Cartridge Replacement Melbourne

Your whole house filter is only as effective as its cartridges. As they wear out, water pressure drops and filtration declines.

Our licensed Melbourne plumbers replace the correct cartridges on site, including new seals, a full system flush, and a pressure test.

Whole House Water Filter Cartridge Replacement Melbourne

Your whole house filter only works as well as the cartridges inside it. Once they load up with sediment or the carbon is spent, pressure drops, the chlorine taste creeps back, and the system stops doing the job you paid for.

Whole House Water Filter Cartridge Services in Melbourne

Whole House Cartridge Changeover

The full service. We supply the correct cartridges for your system, isolate the water, swap every stage, fit new seals, flush the lines and pressure test before we leave. Most changeovers take about 10 minutes on site.

Replacement Cartridge Supply

Happy to fit them yourself? Send us a photo of your housing, and we'll identify the correct size, micron rating and stage order, then supply the cartridges without the installation.

Whole House Filter Servicing

A full system check beyond the cartridges. We inspect housings, brackets, fittings and O-rings, check flow and pressure across the unit, and flag anything showing wear before it becomes a leak.

Seized Housings & Leak Repairs

Housing that won't open, or a changeover that has started weeping? We free seized housings without cracking them, replace failed seals and damaged assemblies, and get the system back to full pressure.

Under-Sink & RO Cartridge Replacement

Under-sink twin and triple systems, plus reverse osmosis units. We replace pre-filters, carbon blocks and RO membranes, sanitise the housings, and confirm the system is producing clean water before handover.

TESTIMONIALS
What our Customers Have to Say!

Our customers regularly tell us they appreciate our professional approach, friendly service, and reliable results. Many have shared that our team did a fantastic job and delivered great service at a good price.

An Overdue Water Filter Cartridge Is Worse Than No Filter At All

Cartridges do not fail suddenly. They fade, and most households only notice once the water has been mediocre for months. The sediment pre-filter loads up first and starts choking flow to the entire house, which is why the shower is usually where people notice it.

The bigger problem is the carbon stage. Once carbon reaches capacity, it stops adsorbing, and a saturated cartridge can begin releasing what it previously captured back into your supply. At that point the system is no longer protecting your water, your appliances, or your pipework.

Left long enough, housings seize, seals perish, and a routine changeover turns into replacing the whole assembly. Most whole house cartridges need replacing every 6 to 12 months in Melbourne, depending on household size and water conditions.

DON'T IGNORE THE SIGNS

Signs Your Whole House Filter Cartridges Need Replacing

Cartridges give plenty of warning before they fail outright. If any of these sound familiar, your system is due for a changeover and is likely already underperforming.

Water pressure has dropped off, usually noticed in the shower first

Chlorine taste or smell has returned to your tap water

The sediment cartridge has gone from white to brown or grey

Water looks cloudy, or tastes flat and lifeless

Visible sediment or grit turning up in kettles and shower screens

It has been more than 12 months, or you can't remember the last changeover

How it Works

Our Cartridge Changeover Process

We keep every changeover quick, clean and fully checked. From identifying your system through to the final pressure test, the job is done in one visit with the right parts on hand.

Tell Us What You Have

Fill in the form or send a photo of your filter housing. We identify the system, confirm which cartridges it takes, and give you a fixed price before anything is booked. No call-out fee to find out.

1

On-Site Changeover

Our licensed plumber arrives with your cartridges already on the van. We isolate the water, open the housings, replace every stage, and fit new O-rings and seals correctly seated and lubricated.

2

Flush & Pressure Test Before Handover

We flush the new cartridges through so you are not drinking carbon fines, pressure test every connection, and confirm the system is dry before we leave. We also note when your next changeover is due.

JUST NEED THE CARTRIDGES?

Replacement Cartridge Supply Across Melbourne

Some customers are comfortable doing the swap themselves and only need the right parts. Send through a photo of your filter housing, and we will confirm exactly what it takes – size, micron rating and the order the stages sit in.

Most whole house systems run 20″ x 4.5″ or 10″ x 4.5″ cartridges, but dimensions are only half the answer. The filter media and the sequence matter just as much, and fitting a carbon block ahead of the sediment pre-filter will clog the more expensive cartridge within weeks.

If your housings are stiff, mounted high, or you’ve had a leak after a previous changeover, it is worth having a plumber do it. A cracked housing costs considerably more than a service call.

Why Choose Us

Why Choose Select Plumbing & Gas

Licensed Plumbers, Not a Filter Shop

Most cartridge suppliers post you a box and leave the rest to you. We are licensed Melbourne plumbers who supply the correct cartridge and fit it properly, with the work covered by our warranty.

Seals, Flush and Pressure Test as Standard

A cartridge swap is the easy part. Correctly seated seals and a proper pressure test are what stop a slow weep turning up inside a cupboard or wall cavity a fortnight later.

Fixed Pricing With No Surprise Add-Ons

You get the full price before we book, covering cartridges and labour. If your system is non-standard, we tell you upfront rather than adding it to the invoice afterwards.

We Bring the Right Cartridges First Time

Send a photo, and we identify the system before we book. That means no wrong sizes, no second visit, and no half-finished job with your water isolated overnight.

We Service Systems We Did Not Install

Most of the changeovers we do are on units fitted by someone else, including brands whose original installer has since closed. Bring us any system, and we will look after it.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs – Whole House Water Filter Cartridges

How often should a water filter cartridge be changed?

For most Melbourne homes, whole house cartridges need replacing every 6 to 12 months. Sediment pre-filters usually go first, especially in older homes. Carbon cartridges typically last the full 12 months.

How much does it cost to replace a water filter cartridge?

A full whole house changeover is $350, covering the cartridges, a licensed plumber, new seals, a system flush and a pressure test. There is no call-out fee. Non-standard systems are quoted before booking.

What is the life expectancy of a water filter cartridge?

Between 6 and 12 months for whole house sediment and carbon cartridges. Reverse osmosis membranes are different and generally last 2 to 3 years. Manufacturer ratings assume average conditions, so go by performance.

How do I know when my cartridge needs replacing?

The clearest signs are a drop in water pressure, chlorine taste or smell returning, and visible discolouration of the cartridge. Pressure loss is usually the first thing people notice, normally in the shower.

Can I clean a water filter cartridge instead of replacing it?

Generally no. Sediment cartridges can sometimes be rinsed to buy a little time, but carbon cannot be regenerated once saturated, and a spent cartridge can release what it captured back into your water.. Sediment cartridges can sometimes be rinsed to buy a little time, but carbon cannot be regenerated once saturated, and a spent cartridge can release what it captured back into your water.

How long does a cartridge changeover take?

The swap itself takes roughly 10 minutes. Allow a little longer for the flush, the pressure test, and a quick check of the rest of your filter setup while we are on site.

Do you supply the cartridges or do I need to buy them?

We supply them. Tell us your system or send a photo, and we bring the correct replacements. We can also supply cartridges on their own if you would rather fit them yourself.

Do you service water filter systems you did not install?

Yes. Most of our changeovers are on systems installed by someone else, including brands whose original installer is no longer operating in Melbourne.
